The Financial Times reported this morning that Morrison is set to take early retirement, in a move that will give chairman Charles Allen more control over the ITV broadcaster.
However, Granada has said it has a policy of not commenting on the story, which has been circulating since the collapse of Granada's digital broadcasting joint venture ITV Digital.
A Granada spokesman said: "The story has been written on and off over the past several months and we have taken a policy decision not to comment on it."
The uncertainty surrounding the leadership at Granada appears to have hit its shares, as the market waits for a decision one way or the other. Shares in Granada were the hardest hit by all-round falls in the media sector this morning. At midday, Granada was down 4.93%, or 4.5p, to trade at 86.75p.
Morrison will not be replaced directly, but a deputy chairman is to be appointed, according to reports.
