NME moves awards ceremony to O2 development

LONDON - The NME has moved its music awards from the now defunct Hammersmith Palais to the IndigO2 venue at the O2 arena.

The awards nomination party on December 6 will be the first event NME will hold at IndigO2, with live performances from various bands and DJs.

The actual awards night, which honours the best artists for 2007, is to be held on February 28 and will be immediately followed by the NME Awards Big Gig in the main O2 arena.

Conor McNicholas, editor of NME, said: "After a hugely successful four year residency at Hammersmith Palais, it's time to take things up another gear for the Shockwaves NME Awards.

"The new venue is a fantastic opportunity for our readers to get closer to the awards and we're working on a jaw-dropping line-up for them. It's going to be the biggest Shockwaves NME Awards ever."

Hair gel company Shockwaves will sponsor next year's event for the fourth year running.

Ines de la Mata, Shockwaves brand manager, said: "It's a fantastic opportunity for Shockwaves to demonstrate it's commitment to music and we look forward to a hugely successful campaign."
