NME to launch Russian edition

LONDON - IPC Media's last remaining weekly music newspaper NME is launching in Russia, bringing the number of markets in which the title is available to 25.

The magazine, which will be published in A4 format, launches on September 18 and will be produced fortnightly. A launch concert will take place on September 22 featuring four Russian bands and UK indie outfit Muse.

IPC Ignite's international publisher Siriliya Nawalker said, "We believe that IPC has several key brands which have the potential to develop in many international markets and NME is one of these, with NME Russia being just the start."

The Russian version will be launched in conjunction with Russian firm Veneto.

In December last year, IPC's other music weekly Melody Maker was folded into the stronger title. Last month, NME launched its own music radio station, but later made swingeing cuts across its online division including axing staff on NME.com.
