Nissan overhauls management

Nissan Motors GB has reshuffled its senior staff, appointing a managing director with marketing experience as it aims to continue its impressive performance in the UK.

Bill Bosley, the former vice-president of aftersales for Nissan in North America, will oversee all aspects of the business in the UK, including marketing and sales.

Paul Willcox, the UK marketing director, will report to Bosley. He replaces the current managing director, Brian Carolin, who is moving to Nissan in Paris as vice-president of sales for Europe.

The company has also promoted Andy Connell, assistant marketing manager for aftersales, to marketing manager in the communications department, where he will be in charge of handling all the advertising in the UK.

The latest changes follow a management restructure last year. In October, top UK marketer Simon Thomas was promoted to sales director and replaced by Willcox.

In the same month, Goodyear Dunlop poached senior European marketer Neil Burrows (Marketing, October 16 2003).

Last year Nissan launched the latest version of its Micra and sales of the car have contributed to the company's strong performance, helping it buck market trends.

In 2003, sales were up 5% on the previous year, according to the Society of Motor Manufacturers and Traders. The overall UK car market underwent a 0.6% change.
