Ofcom received 17 complaints about the ident, created by TBWA\London in support of the Nissan Navara. It was one of a series of films shown as part of Nissan's sponsorship of 'Scrapheap Challenge', which featured a group of animated characters working on the car.
The complaints said that some children had been upset by the ident and that it was disturbing and inappropriate for broadcast during a programme that attracted a family audience.
Channel 4 said that it was surprised about the complaints, because the series of idents was meant to be endearing and humorous when, in each scenario, the characters came off worse against the car.
Nissan ultimately decided to replace the spot with a different animation. Ofcom said it accepted that the intention was clearly to be humorous and that the matter was resolved.
