
The Japanese video games company reported a net profit of 77.6bn yen (£570m), a drop of 66% from 228.6bn yen (£1.69bn) on the year, in the period to end of March 2011.
Nintendo attributed its fall in profits to a sales fall in the US, its largest market, along with Japan and Europe as well. It was also negatively impacted by a strong Yen.
Nintendo said it had "not suffered any direct damage" from the Japanese earthquake but warned it will impact on consumer buying in the future.
Nintendo released few details about the successor to the Wii, except to say it will announce more details of its 2012 launch in June this year at a technology conference.
The company launched the Wii back in 2006 and in five years Nintendo said it has sold over 86 million units.
Nintendo will be hoping that long-term Wii fans will want to upgrade to the new model, along with luring in new customers from its rivals.
Nintendo has faced competition from smartphones in the market, along with rise of numerous tablet devices.
In response, Nintendo launched the Nintendo 3DS, a handheld 3D gameplay device which consumers can play without the need for 3D glasses.
It launched in Europe in March and the company deemed its sales performance as "smooth".
