The agency is making nine redundancies, understood to be split between senior account management and mid-level creative positions.
Ian Halley, a senior account handler and the joint head of account management, and Dave Boscawen, a senior account handler, are believed to be on the list of leavers.
The agency would not confirm any names, but said it was talking to a small number of staff about redundancies.
Those involved were notified at the end of last year and are understood to be in a consultation process with the agency, believed to be in its final stages.
Personnel changes are not unexpected at McCann following the appointment of Rupert Howell as the chairman of the UK agency and president of Europe, the Middle East and Africa last August, replacing Ben Langdon.
Howell's appointment of Robert Campbell and Robin Price as the creative director for the UK and Europe and the operations director respectively will have increased the agency's salary bill.
The restructure is also understood to be part of an attempt to address an imbalance in the number of senior account management staff at the agency.
It follows the loss of a number of accounts including Kwik Save, Somerfield, Birds Eye and Greene King.
