Nike is celebrating the impact of Black women in sports with a short film, "We Play Real." The spot, narrated by actress Dominique Fishback, shows athletes like Serena Williams, Caster Semenya, Naomi Osaka and Sha'Carri Richardson during pivotal moments in their careers. "It's organic. From the curl in our hair to the tip of our toes, from the sway in our hips to the joy in our smile," Fishback says. "We give our blood, sweat and tears to be our very best even when the world tells us it's never going to be enough." The ad weaves back and forth between sport and athletes’ social activism with clips from Black Lives Matter protests and of Osaka wearing a mask adorned with Breonna Taylor’s name during the U.S. Open. "You thought history just made itself?" Fishback added. "Nah, baby. This ain't magic. This? This is the real thing."
