
The broadcaster plans to open 20 properties worldwide by 2020, with the first expected to be a 650-room resort at Liberty Station in San Diego. They will be branded Nickelodeon Resorts by Marriott and managed by the hotel group.Locations in Europe, the US, the Caribbean, Mexico, Asia, Australia and the Middle East are being considered, with the UK believed to be at the top of the list.
Unlike Disney's theme parks, the resorts will not feature themed rides, but will include water attractions and swimming pools, with indoor water parks planned for properties in cooler destinations. A 100,000ft2 complex of pools and interactive attractions is planned for the San Diego resort.
Live shows will feature costumed Nickelodeon characters such as SpongeBob SquarePants and Dora the Explorer, while restaurants will include a NickToons Cafe with a character-themed breakfast menu.
Other elements will include Nick Pix photo studios, Nick.com Cyberzones, where kids can surf the net safely, and big games rooms.
Nickelodeon is targeting families with children but also 'fun-seeking business groups and individuals'.
