A few years back, I had a management coach. Two things he advised stuck in my memory and I have followed them ever since. They are very basic and yet at the same time so very true.
Principle One was to "always remember that every day when you wake up you have a conscious choice – either to be positive or to be negative – each one has consequences".
Principle Two was to "always imagine that you are self-employed – as people at work will only see and care about the last thing you have delivered".
For me, applying these two principles results in maintaining a positive attitude with my teams and the people I work with on a daily basis – it’s also always focusing on the next thing we can do and do better for our customers.
I have found that adopting these principles makes every day at work both stimulating and rewarding.
