Nick de Bois named Business Visits & Events Board chair

The Department for Culture, Media & Sport has announced former MP Nick de Bois as the chair of the new Business Visits & Events Board.

The governmental department outlined plans for the board . De Bois, who previously chaired the All Party Parliamentary Group (APPG) for Events before he was , will lead the group in driving the UK’s events industry forward. 

The board will aim to attract big events to the UK and investigate the barriers to entry, such as red tape and regulation. It will host its first formal meeting in January 2016. 

De Bois said: "I am delighted to volunteer my services and I look forward to helping support the events industry and contribute to government growth agenda."

Last week it was announced that James Heappey, MP for Glastonbury constituency Wells, . The group met at its AGM for the first time on Monday (26 October), and seeks to grow the events industry from £43.3bn to £48bn by 2020.
