NHS's corporate university hires head of comms

The NHS University (NHSU), the NHS's corporate university, has appointed a new head of corporate communications strategy who will be responsible for overseeing the organisation's marketing.

Catherine Hastings joins as director of communication and information and will work alongside senior figures in health and education to deliver the government's plans to provide training for 1.3 million NHS employees.

Hastings will be responsible for establishing a marketing team for the NHSU and creating a brand aligned to the NHS and Department of Health.

The organisation, which will become independent of the NHS in late spring, will market itself to all NHS employees, as well as those who work with the NHS. They will be targeted with details of courses with a focus on improving patient care.

The NHSU's initial plans are out for consultation until the end of February.

Hastings was previously head of corporate communications strategy at the BBC before setting up her own consultancy, Strategic Communications, in 2000.
