NHS hails 'most successful' recruitment ad campaign

LONDON - A dramatic 拢4m advertisement created by Leo Burnett to encourage people to join the NHS workforce prompted 94,000 members of the public to contact the service in the space of 10 weeks.

NHS hails 'most successful' recruitment ad campaign

This represents a 17% increase on the results of the previous year's campaign and is being hailed by the Department of Health as its most successful to date.

The ad shows a man with epilepsy falling in slow motion down a flight of stairs. Voiceovers by real NHS staff describe the man's journey through the health service and mention the professionals -- such as GP, radiographer and cardiographer -- who help him along the way. The film ends with the line: "Step by step, they helped me find my feet."

The spot ran between March 1 and May 16 and directed people to the NHS recruitment and helpline.

John Hutton, the health minister, said: "This campaign is part of our workforce strategy. It reinforces our focus on the NHS as a model employer of staff, offering varied and interesting career opportunities with flexible working and support for childcare."

He added: "The success of the campaign underlines that our strategy is working and that we will deliver a bigger workforce that is valued by the NHS and the patients it serves."

The ad was written and art directed by Jon Daniel and Simon Impey, and directed by Malcolm Venville through Therapy Films.
