NGN seeks digital agency to handle tabloids brief

News Group Newspapers (NGN) is reviewing the £2m digital advertising account for its flagship red-top titles The Sun and News of the World.

The Rupert Murdoch-owned publisher plans to appoint an agency to oversee all aspects of digital marketing for the tabloid newspapers, including online advertising, viral campaigns and other bespoke web projects. The review process is being handled through the AAR.

NGN currently works with Euro RSCG 4D Digital on online advertising campaigns for the tabloids. The agency has declined to repitch for the business.

The newspaper publisher plans to hold chemistry meetings with UK digital agencies later this month, before drawing up a shortlist and concluding the pitch process early next year.

The review is being overseen by Ben Hughes, who was recently appointed as head of digital marketing at NGN to spearhead the expansion of The Sun and News of the World across emerging digital platforms.

NGN claimed the review will not affect its relationship with Euro RSCG, which handles its advertising, and its media agency MindShare.

Figures from ABC Electronic show that The Sun Online attracts more than 10m unique users a month.
