Newsquest poaches Carat manager

Newsquest has appointed Carat's regional media manager, Chris Russell-Smith as business development account manager on its newly formed Business Development Unit. Russell-Smith will be responsible for overseeing accounts ranging from Specsavers to British Gas.

Marilyn Hart has also been promoted to senior account manager at Newsquest Manchester, taking some day to day running of the provincial operation away from director Tony Steenson, in order the company says for him to take a more hands-on approach with clients and agencies.

Recent recruits to the newly formed unit have also been poached from media agencies and include Jacqui Newman, media manager at David Price who joins as business development manager and Emma Boyd joining as business development account manager from PHD.

Newsquest managing director, Lisa Borne said: "Chris' appointment reflects the respect that our Business Development Unit is gaining within the industry. We are putting forward meaningful proposals, and this is reflected in the results that we are achieving. There are real opportunities for the regional press and the advertisers that use it. It is imperative that we have a quality and knowledgeable sales team to promote this fact, and this is reflected in the appointments that we have made to date".

Newsquest has also appointed Matt Riches to the role of marketing executive and Matt Simpson to marketing supervisor.
