The move follows director Steve Oram's announcement earlier this year that he would be leaving the association. Oram will now work with Newell as the organisations complete the change. Both bodies will operate from St Andrew's House in Holborn.
In a joint statement, Murdoch MacLennan, chairman of the association, and Paul Davidson, president of the society, explained that the public policy and external challenges facing national and regional newspaper businesses meant it was increasingly important for the two organisations to work together to help the industry as a whole.
Each organisation will retain its identity and independence, but with a combined staff.
Newspaper bodies link up
The Newspaper Publishers Association and the Newspaper Society have joined forces and will operate from one location under the directorship of Newspaper Society director, David Newell.
