
In its first month reporting as a regional title, the Standard, relaunched under new owner Alexander Lebedev and new editor Geordie Greig, achieved full price news-stand sales of 128,637, up from 120,257 in May, while discounted sales were down to 15,623, from 20,257 month on month.
The paper, which has said it is looking to change its distribution strategy by giving away fewer bulk copies via airlines and increasing the number of free copies available in London, actually increased its bulk copies, from 70,371 in May to 71,353 in June. It added a further 20,462 copies to its ABC via free copies distributed in London.
Its increased headline circulation figure will be viewed as good news for the Standard's new owners. Though still down year on year, the high profile ad campaigns in the capital and increased distribution activity look to have stemmed some of the downward trend.
Rival free newspapers, Associated's London Lite and New International's thelonedonpaper, remained fairly static in June - comparing month-on-month and year- on-year figures - with the Lite recording an ABC of 400,741 and thelondonpaper, maintaining its strategy of distributing more papers, hitting 497,244.
City AM recorded a slight fall in June, down 3.2% to 104,097, although the paper is still maintaining year-on-year increases having broken through the 100,000 mark in March.
Associated's Metro paper was down very slightly month on month, to 1,335,000 in June, nationwide across the group, while Metro London retained its position as the largest circulation London free paper, recording an ABC of 735,712, virtually unchanged from May.
