
The Daily Star has improved its circulation since it reduced its cover price to 20p last November and in July, its average circulation was 887,106, up 20.12% year on year and 1.91% month on month.
Circulation for Independent News & Media's The Independent declined by the greatest percentage of the daily papers year on year. Its average circulation in July was 189,013, down 19.67% year on year and 5.68% month on month.
News International's weekly red-top The Sun narrowly maintained its position as the most popular newspaper, above its Sunday sister title The News of the World. The Sun's average circulation was 3,121,407 copies a day, down 0.4% year on year, but up 3.07% month on month.
The circulation of Northern & Shell's mid-market paper the Daily Express was 734,045, down 0.19% year on year, but up 0.62% month on month. DMGT's mid-market Daily Mail's average circulation was 2,178,640, down 4.05% year on year and 1.02% month on month.
Guardian Media Group's daily The Guardian posted the smallest circulation decline of the quality papers, with an average circulation of 328,773 down 2.71% year on year.
The Scottish papers suffered the second and third-highest circulation declines, with Trinity Mirror's Daily Record down 10.4% year on year to 343,165 and Newsquest's The Herald down 8.74% to 55,962.
Overall, the average circulation of the national daily papers was down 2.31% year on year, but up 0.31% month on month.
