NEWS: Live TV attacks Sky boxing tactics with ‘pay-to-view’ spoof

Live TV, the Mirror Group’s cable venture, is thumbing its nose at its

rival Sky TV with the launch of a ‘pay-to-view’ initiative in which

viewers are actually paid for watching certain programmes.

The move is a tongue-in-cheek response to Sky’s decision to screen the

Mike Tyson versus Frank Bruno boxing match as the UK’s first ever pay-

per-view programme live from Las Vegas on Sunday.

Live TV is screening its own version of the fight featuring Tyson and

Bruno lookalikes. Viewers who tune in can dial a special number during

the fight, answer a question and register their name and address to

receive pounds 1.

Live TV’s head of technical operations, Mike Spinks, said: ‘We

anticipate a huge response and will lay on extra telephone lines.’

Live TV’s head of programmes, Nick Ferrari, said: ‘I can think of dozens

of programmes on other stations that could actually get some viewers if

they were only prepared to pay for them.’
