
Milner joined News International in 1981. His latest role spanned across the company's national newspapers – The Times, The Sunday Times, News of the World, and The Sun – in operations, distribution, procurement and content delivery.
His departure at the end of the year is said to be of "mutual consent" and he will not be replaced directly.
Milner took up the role of as part of a restructure instigated by James Murdoch, chairman and chief executive, Europe and Asia for News Corporation.

He is a high-profile figure across the newspaper industry and has previously served as chairman of its trade body, the Newspaper Marketing Agency (NMA).
His previous roles at News International include group managing director of its national newspapers, managing director of Times Newspapers and prior to that managing director of The Sun and The News of the World.
