The move will accelerate the race to provide the first real alternative postal service to Royal Mail. Another rival, UK Mail, is set to launch its UK service in April after becoming the first player to reach agreement on the cost of accessing Royal Mail's 'final mile' delivery network late last year.
Speedmail operates through a fleet of vans to deliver business mail at night to 22 postcodes in London. It recently secured a long-term licence from postal regulator Postcomm to deliver bulk mail of more than 4,000 items.
Deutsche Post Global Mail has been frustrated in its efforts to launch a competitive service as uncertainty persisted over the cost of Royal Mail's access price. Without knowing these precise figures, would-be competitors have been unable to finalise infrastructure investment plans.
Some of that uncertainty is likely to clear later this month with the expected publication of UK Mail's agreement on access pricing with Royal Mail.
"We're eager to understand the details of this agreement," said Andy Barrett, marketing manager at Deutsche Post Global Mail (UK).
Under the terms of its licence, Royal Mail cannot offer different prices to competitors for the same product.
