Emap was thought to have looked into a stand-alone shopping magazine prior to sister title Grazia's launch, but the idea was put on the back burner.
Style Stalker will allow the publisher to target a similar reader and advertiser base as the proposed stand-alone title.
The first edition of Style Stalker will be bound onto the new-look New Woman, which Emap has revamped and rebranded NW.
From the following month, the supplement, slightly smaller than the main magazine, will be stitched into NW's centre pages.
Emap is supporting the new supplement with a dedicated microsite, promoted through newwoman.co.uk, providing daily fashion and shopping news and promotional offers.
The site will also encourage users to post their own content, including submitting photos of themselves for a daily slot, Rate My Style.
While aspirational in tone, Style Stalker aims to reach a younger audience than Emap's similarly themed weekly title Grazia, which has yet to have a significant web presence.
With the launch of the supplement and NW's new look, Emap aims to provide more value- for-money with the monthly title to readers who have been swayed by the new breed of women's weeklies, including the publisher's own Grazia, Heat and Closer.
The magazine has expanded its front section with lifestyle-themed news now taking up around a quarter of the magazine to provide what Emap claims is a faster pace.
According to its research, NW readers used to buy two or three monthlies each month, but typically now choose just one, supplemented by at least one weekly.
"We want to be the first choice monthly for a weekly reader," said Dawn Bebe, MD of Emap Elan.
"Rather than being a slow, coffee table read, we're giving what these readers want - and can also talk to them every day online."
Bebe compared the name change to Emap's rebranding of For Him Magazine as FHM in the 1990s, saying that younger readers saw the name New Woman as old- fashioned.
In the January to June ABCs, New Woman's sales fell 14.4% year on year to 231,785, but along with Glamour was one of few titles to maintain its circulation period on period.
New Woman's website, now in its tenth year, has 85,000 unique users.
New Woman rebrands as NW with shopping supplement
Emap's glossy monthly New Woman plans to grow its fashion, shopping and celebrity coverage with Style Stalker, a monthly 24-page supplement from the December issue.
