The advertising industry has been largely unaffected by Equity's continuing boycott of TV commercials, according to a new survey by the Institute of Practitioners in Advertising.
The IPA's report finds that none of the 153 UK TV commercials shot between December and January were postponed or cancelled. Only one commercial was shot abroad because of the boycott.
Graham Hinton, the IPA's president, said: "The IPA/ISBA [Incorporated Society of British Advertisers] set out to reduce the cost of voice-overs. The statistics up to December that we've already provided prove that we are achieving this. In a letter to the Stage [the actor's journal] two weeks ago, we said that effective commercials are being made despite the Equity boycott."
He added: "In response, Ian McGarry of Equity, has made claims that some un-named agencies are accepting the new Equity contract. We are not surprised that a small number of commercials may have been made under the Equity contract. But the overwhelming majority of IPA/ISBA members are backing our advice not to use the Equity contract."
