New Five chief executive Airey to start in October

LONDON - Five has negotiated an early start date for new chairman and chief executive Dawn Airey, cutting her 12-month notice period with ITV down by six months.

Airey will start her role as chief executive of Five at the end of October, according to parent company RTL Group's chief executive, Gerhard Zeiler, during a conference call about the broadcaster's interim results earlier today.

She will join Five after resigning as ITV director of content after less than a year in the role. Five executive sales director Mark White is currently holding the fort as Five's interim chief executive.

Zeiler said: "We are very happy that Dawn Airey will start at the end of October working for Five, and she will make a difference."

Michael Grade, ITV executive chairman, is understood to have been furious about Airey's defection to Five and was expected to hold her to a year-long gardening leave period until May 2009.
