Nestle and Kids Club Network plan to announce the initiative, called Make Space, in two weeks' time. They are also planning a Parliamentary launch to gain government support. Make Space is understood to be a Nestle corporate project rather than a brand-specific cause-related marketing campaign.
The project will be the launchpad for a much broader corporate social responsibility strategy, which Nestle plans for next year.
The company has been widely criticised over ethical issues including its marketing of breast milk in developing countries and more recently its alleged exploitation of coffee growers.
Nestle confirmed its backing of the project but would not reveal further details. However, a spokeswoman said it will not appear on the packaging of Nestle brands "at this stage".
