The National Lottery is far and away the most popular gambling
activity in Britain, with 56% playing regularly compared with just 8%
playing the football Pools, according to research by Taylor Nelson
Sofres for Marketing.
The Lottery holds a consistent lead in popularity over other gambling
activities across all demographic groups. It is played almost equally by
men (57%) and women (55%). The most frequent players fall into the DE
demographic, with 60% playing regularly, and the 55 to 64 age range,
with 65%.
Football Pools and betting on the horses tied at second place, with 8%
each. Both categories showed a heavy male bias.
At the bottom of the table was bingo, which is played most regularly by
C1s and those aged 65 and over.
