National Geographic launches new channel

National Geographic is to launch Nat Geo Wild, a TV channel dedicated to the best in wildlife programming, next year.

The channel will air in the UK on Sky, NTL and Telewest from 1 March 2007 and will broadcast for 18 hours. It will also be available on mobile TV and broadband and as podcasts.
It replaces National Geographic's Adventure One, which currently airs on Sky and NTL Digital channel 801 and Telewest channel 231.
Content for the new channel comes from co-productions and international acquisitions. Confirmed programmes at launch include new episodes of National Geographic's Hunter Hunted and new series of Rogue Raiders and Infested.
National Geographic said the launch would complement its core channel, which will expand its contemporary science, history and technology strands.
The launch follows National Geographic's deal with Orange last month to offer its programmes on mobiles for a monthly subscription fee.
