Nandos, the South African restaurant chain which plans to open 50
UK branches by the millennium, is running its first broadcast ads. A
cinema campaign, through Mustoe Merriman Herring Levy, breaks from June
5.
The 60-second commercial, called Down and Out, shows a woman’s daily
yearning to go into a Nandos restaurant, which she never actually
fulfills.
While the viewer presumes she cannot afford to go in, the endline says:
’Jean Montgomery: Vegetarian’ The ad is timed to air in Vegetarian Week,
continuing Nandos’ tradition of controversial advertising in its home
country.
