Myers has been chief executive of GMG's radio division, which includes five regional radio stations under the Real Radio and Smooth fm brands, since its inception in 1999.
The group also broadcasts Jazz FM via satellite and internet and is a member of the MXR digital radio group.
Sir Robert Phillis, chief executive of GMG plc, said: "This appointment to the GMG Board demonstrates the commitment of the Group to our radio operations.
"We plan to extend the Real Radio and Smooth fm brands through new licence applications and selective acquisitions as and when opportunities arise.
"It is entirely appropriate that the Radio division should be directly represented on the main Board alongside the other operating divisions."
Myers added: "I am delighted to be joining the Board when there is so much excitement about building the radio division, and I look forward to playing my part in the future development of GMG."
