The show, to be called 'Sinchronicity', will feature a group of eligible bachelor friends and will be set in an unnamed American city. Details such as how many characters will star are yet to be decided, although it is thought that one of the characters will be gay.
'Sinchronicity' has been commissioned by HBO, the cable channel that made 'Sex and the City' as well as 'The Sopranos', and will be produced through Shine Communications, the production company set up by Murdoch two years ago with the Labour peer Lord Alli.
According to a report in the Independent on Sunday, the show will be about a group of male friends, and they will be shown discussing their sex lives. The show was originally to be made for British television, but will now be made for a US audience.
Murdoch, who is married to publicist to the stars Matthew Freud, had a successful career as the managing director of BSkyB before deciding to quit and pursue separate interests to those of her media baron father Rupert.
She was a non-executive director at Future Networks, before setting up Shine in 2001.
'Sex and The City' has been a massive hit all over the world for HBO. It stars Sarah Jessica Parker as a journalist, girl-about-town and owner of a large, eclectic wardrobe; and shows the exploits of four successful, single women living in New York City.
