Online traffic for the free Metro newsbrand reached 7.8 million in March, with daily unique browsers rising by 18%. It will be welcome relief for those at Northcliffe House, who witnessed following the launch of a platform-responsive website.

The March increase takes Metro's online readership above the level it was in November before the dip, when Metro reported 7.7 million monthly readers.

The latest ABC digital audit also saw a record monthly high for The Guardian website, with 78.3 million unique browsers, despite a 6.5% drop in daily averages for the site. The figure, which beats guardian.co.uk's previous record of 77.9 million achieved in January 2013, also represented a 23% rise year on year.
