MTV continues European expansion with Portugal launch

MTV Portugal will be distributed to 1.5m homes in Portugal, via TV Cabo, Cabo Visao and TV Tel, and will be the most widely distributed music TV service in Portugal. MTV Networks Europe is the most widely distributed TV network in Europe and airs to more than 112m homes.

The 24-hour channel will feature a dedicated on-air look and a music policy that features the latest Portuguese hits and artists alongside international music. There will be a particular focus on local rock bands so that Blind Zero, for example, will be playlisted alongside Coldplay, Marilyn Manson and Blur.

An upcoming special, 'MTV Live with Blind Zero', will feature one of the country's most popular bands for the first time on MTV anywhere in the world.

MTV Portugal will also broadcast the network's international English-language shows including 'Dance Floor Chart', a countdown show that is skewed towards the popular, commercial end of dance music with the top 10 videos played in entirety; 'MTV Becoming', which turns viewers into the star they idolise; and 'Making The Video', an exclusive behind-the-scenes look at the making of a top artist's music video.

The launch is sponsored by Lipton, which will celebrate the event with an MTV Club Tour, a series of five parties set to take place from July to September in Lisbon, Oporto, Povoa do Varzim and Albufeira.
