MSN signs up Future to boost gaming site

MSN UK has signed up Future Publishing to provide online gaming content as part of a strategy to ramp up its coverage of the growing sector.

Content from Future's radar.com games site is being integrated into MSN.co.uk as part of an exclusive deal between the Microsoft-owned portal and the publishing house.

Games Radar users are taken to a co-branded site that carries news, features and reviews from Future's web sites and magazines including Official PlayStation 2 Magazine, NGC, Edge and PC Gamer. Games Radar in turn receives support in each of the publications. MSN's existing Game Zone has been integrated into the site.

James Binns, publisher of Games Radar, said: "This deal delivers the scale and distribution we need to grow our position. The next few years will be a boom time for the games market and we're in the best position to make the most of it."

MSN's push into the games sector follows similar activity by BTopenworld, which acquired the operations of Games Domain (www.gamesdomain.co.uk) for a six-figure sum last October. Global online gaming is set to grow from £432m in 2002 to £1.87 billion by 2005, according to Datamonitor.
