What will your role involve?
Overseeing and directing all our operations in Europe - providing search technology, recruiting advertisers, and providing paid-search to European portals. It means working with portals to give them search results and forming important relationships. I need to ensure there's a large ad base to provide the bidding to be at the top of the search list.
What attracted you to the role?
It is always exciting to be in a place that's expanding. Commercial search is such a big, growing business - there's a fantastic impact on marketing and it's becoming a dominant way to promote services on the internet.
What key learnings do you bring?
A good understanding of different business operations across Europe.
I have experience of working with French and German teams, and I have strong management skills. We're covering a sizeable area and it's important we access all Europe. And I'm an experienced general manager of the internet business, with strong knowledge of advertisers and affiliates.
What challenges face the search sector?
The challenge is constantly innovating. Search has grown dramatically in the last few years. More advertisers wish to use the experience. The next challenge includes looking at what we put on the internet, and applying it to the mobile sector and local search facilities; say, if you want to find a local dentist. We are also innovating to find better search services.
