Storehouse-owned retail chain Mothercare has appointed Steve
Foulser as marketing director.
Foulser’s priority will be to revive the ailing retail brand and appoint
an advertising agency to work on the chain’s brand marketing.
He will report directly to Greg Tufnell, managing director of
Mothercare.
Tufnell said: ’The business has been without a marketing director at
board level for five years. Steve’s appointment will sharpen our focus
on communicating the Mothercare brand to its core markets.’
The appointment comes amid criticism that Mothercare has failed to
capitalise on its brand while supermarkets such as Asda have gained
share in the childrenswear market.
Foulser joins the group from Woolworths, part of the Kingfisher group,
where he had been marketing controller since May 1996. Before that he
worked for both British Airways and Gillette.
In February, Julie Wither, then top marketer at Mothercare, left the
company suddenly. Michele Waters, formerly stores trading manager at
Mothercare, became marketing manager.
Foulser will be expected to build a new team to restore confidence in
the store’s marketing.
