The new activity was created by DLKW Lowe. However, Morrisons released a spot featuring Easter food instead.

The move comes amid a number of strategic overhauls at the retailer and the departure of five executives including Nick Collard, Morrisons’ top marketer. David Potts, the chief executive who joined in February, said the changes would create a "leaner management board".

Morrisons dropped Ant and Dec, the TV presenters, from its campaigns in March.

A spokesman for the company said: "We often change elements of our marketing. We’re very happy with the final result."

DLKW Lowe declined to comment.
