Media Week understands that Goallover will pick up the ad sales contract for its range of European sites. Two ad sales houses are set for a showdown next week to bid for the prized account.
Monster has localised sites in 17 European countries and believes that it can offer advertisers value through targeting by location. The firm's portfolio includes dedicated Scottish, Welsh and UK sites.
Boris Pfeiffer has been appointed general manager of internet advertising, Europe, for Monster.
Pfeiffer is handling the pitch and will oversee the site's advertising strategy. He has moved from social network Tickle, which sits within Monster's parent company, Monster Worldwide, where he was general manager. Previous to Tickle, Pfeiffer was European general manager of Ringo, the photo-sharing site set up by Michael Birch, who went on to found Bebo, the UK's most popular social network.
Tickle bought Ringo from Birch in 2004 and was subsequently acquired by Monster Worldwide.
Monster plans to offer simple ad opportunities at first, including banners, buttons and skyscrapers.
Pfeiffer will work to develop further formats once advertising goes live at the end of the summer.
Monster's UK site receives 2.8 million unique users a month, hosts more than two million CVs and claims to post an average of 1,900 new jobs a day.
Goallover is based in north London and runs advertising for third-party sites, including US men's portal Savvy.com.
Savvy hired a UK editorial team this year and appointed Goallover to run its advertising as part of a move into new territories away from the US. Winning Monster would represent Goallover's largest piece of business.
Goallover used to run advertising for social network Hi5 until eType took over the account earlier this year. Music site CD Wow used Goallover to run its advertising last year.
