Sim will join the high street retailer next month with a remit spanning both its clothing and accessories chains. It is the most senior marketing appointment in the company's history, and ends a five-month search (Marketing, August 8, 2002).
He will report to group managing director Rose Foster and is likely to oversee a marketing budget of around 拢10m. It is not clear whether he will seek to appoint an ad agency following an aborted pitch run by the firm last year.
News of Sim's appointment follows the announcement earlier this week that Monsoon had defied expectations by posting interim pre-tax profits of 拢17.7m, up 9%.
The results bode well for the company's expansion as it plans to open dozens of stores, both in the UK and overseas. Monsoon Accessorize now trades in 21 countries outside the UK and Ireland, including Italy, Brazil and Singapore.
Next month, the company will launch a boyswear range to complement its girlswear and accessories portfolio.
