An official announcement was made this morning with X Factor finalists JLS and soul and R&B singer Lemar unveiling the SECC in Glasgow as the new host for 2009.

The event has previously been held at some of London's most prestigious venues including Wembley, The O2 Arena and the Royal Albert Hall.

Stars such as Rihanna, Beyonce, Alexandra Burke and JLS are being approached to take part in the ceremony, which will take place on 30 September.

According to Scottish newspaper The Daily Record, the awards are expected to generate around £10m for the local economy, as well as cementing Glasgow's reputation as an international music hub.
