Mowlam is a far cry from most of the women who appear in the pages of Zoo, with her career as a Labour MP and Secretary of State for Northern Ireland between 1997 and 1999 and a PHD in anthropology. However, she is counting on her experiences in dealing with her stepson and six nephews to give her an insight into the sex lives of young British males.
Her column will appear in a new weekly pull-out supplement called Zoo Uncensored, which will appear for the first time in next week's issue. Running at eight pages, it will cover all aspects of sex and may include contributions from other celebrities.
Mowlam said that she is a fan of the magazine and was introduced to it by her stepson. The Independent reports that Zoo's editor Paul Merrill had written to say that she was a fan of the magazine.
"On that basis, she decided she was an authority for the young men of Britain to turn to for their sexual needs," he said.
Zoo has been duking it out with IPC Media's Nuts for its audience of young men. Zoo magazine's circulation is approaching the 200,000 mark, trailing behind Nuts, which is selling around 250,000 copies each week.
