The deal will enable users of the alot toolbars to create a personalised start page at http://my.alot.com with their favourite widgets, blogs, email accounts, social networks, instant messengers, photos, videos and podcasts all in one place. The alot toolbars have more than eight million active users, with a million in Europe.
The start page is expected to generate advertising inventory for Miva Media clients and type-in search traffic for Miva Direct's search-monetisation partner. Additionally, Miva Direct anticipates leveraging content for the start page from its growing portfolio of consumer destination sites, including the online movie community Spill.com. Miva Direct will also do direct content deals with media owners to be default providers on initial start-up pages, and offer sponsorship of widgets on the pages.
"This partnership is aligned with our strategy for building consumer media and at the same time increases our consumer value proposition. We believe that this represents an opportunity for revenue growth," said Rob Roe, general manager and senior vice-president, Miva Direct.
