Emin, who at News Group leads advertising for The Sun and News of the World, is to take the same title at MGN and will be responsible for advertising sales across the Daily Mirror, the Sunday Mirror and the People.
Reporting directly to Richard Webb, MGN managing director, he also takes charge of the national component of advertising sales on the group's Scottish newspapers, the Daily Record and Sunday Mail.
Webb said: "I am delighted that David has chosen to join MGN. He is a highly professional and very talented individual with enormous experience in tabloid advertising sales. He is the ideal candidate and will help us make the most of our great brands."
During his 12 years at News Group, Emin has risen steadily up the ranks, with stints as advertising manger for Sunday Magazine, The Sun and News of the World before being appointed as News Group sales controller in 2001, deputy director of advertising a year later and his current role in 2004.
Prior to joining News Group, he worked in a variety of advertising roles for the Today newspaper.
At MGN, he replaces Dominic Carter, who announced he was to quit last year, after just nine months in the job, to become trading director for Times Newspapers, which like News Group is also part of Rupert Murdoch's News International operation.
