Miramax names MGM executive as PR chief

NEW YORK - Miramax Films has named Amanda Lundberg, an MGM film publicist, as executive vice-president of worldwide publicity, the most senior PR position at Miramax.

Lundberg, who was senior vice-president of worldwide publicity at MGM, will report directly to co-chairman Harvey Weinstein, except for international publicity, where she will report to Rick Sands, chairman of worldwide distribution.

Miramax's previous head of PR, Marcy Granita, left the company in July last year. She held the title of president of publicity and corporate communications.

Lundberg will take charge of all PR staff and campaigns for Miramax's theatrical releases, based in New York. Janet Hill, executive vice-president of publicity, and Dennis Higgins, senior vice-president of publicity, will be based in Miramax's Los Angeles office.

Higgins is returning to LA after being hired by Miramax to run East Coast publicity only four months ago.

Past successes for Miramax include Jay and Silent Bob Strike Back, Academy Award-winner Shakespeare in Love and surprise French hit Amelie. It is set to release The Shipping News in the UK in March, also tipped as an Oscar contender.

At MGM, Lundberg handled campaigns for films such as Hannibal and the three most-recent James Bond outings, including The World is Not Enough.

She began her career as a publicity executive at Miramax in 1998. Weinstein said of her appointment: "I am thrilled to welcome Amanda back home to Miramax. She has become one of the most respected executives in her field with a well-deserved reputation for strong creative abilities, excellent talent relations and proven leadership skills."

Miramax is owned by the Walt Disney Company and has made its name financing and distributing less-mainstream film projects.
