MindShare, Starcom win brief for Irish Daily Mail

Associated Newspapers has appointed two media agencies to handle a major advertising push to back the launch of the Daily Mail and Mail on Sunday in Ireland.

The main media agency on the business is MindShare Ireland, which also handles the Ireland on Sunday account for Associated.

Meanwhile, Starcom Mediavest Ireland is to handle above-the-line advertising to back any promotions, such as CD giveaways.

Guy Zitter, managing director of the Daily Mail, confirmed last week that an Irish edition of the Daily Mail and Mail on Sunday would launch in the coming month.

The company has been tight-lipped on details but Media Week understands the newspaper is to have a print run of about 100,000 copies.

Ireland does not currently have a mid-market newspaper but the new title will compete with Sir Anthony O'Reilly's Irish Independent, which is the market leader with a circulation of 164,000.

Associated also launched a Dublin version of the daily metropolitan freesheet Metro in October last year.
