Michael Green to quit after Carlton merger with Granada

LONDON – Michael Green, the chairman of ITV company Carlton Communications, is preparing to quit the television business after the merger with Granada goes through later this year.

His departure would see Granada CEO Charles Allen take the chairman’s job in a single ITV company, a role that had previously been earmarked for Green, while Allen’s number two Steve Morrison would take the role of CEO.

Despite talks breaking down last week, it is still expected that the merger will go ahead by the end of the year.

The two failed to agree over future funding of their loss-making digital television venture ITV Digital.

While Green has told friends that he will exit the ITV stage, it is thought he will look for a role elsewhere in UK media.
