Jones joins from creative ad agency Grey London, where she was planning partner. She will be responsible for developing MGN brands and products and will work closely with the group’s newspaper editors to improve brand awar-eness across all media platforms. Jones will report to Richard Webb, the managing director of Mirror Group Newspapers.
The appointment is aimed at strengthening the MGN newspaper brands in the broadened media environment. Interim group strategy director Andrew Christie said: “It’s fair to say that the brand is not as strong as it was 10 years ago. We are looking towards developing and marketing out the brands so they have a better fit in the new world of media. We will also be reviewing our top to bottom products.”
Jones has been appointed alongside Suzy Jordan, head of advertising planning.
Christie added: “We are investing a lot of time and effort in creating new services to understand our brands and how they interact with readers and advertisers. It is important in such a rapidly changing media landscape to reform, adjust and create the best offer possible for consumers and advertisers.”
Prior to working for Grey London, she worked for Ogilvy & Mather on a broad range of brand names including Nestlé, Dairy Crest, Procter & Gamble and the Evening Standard. In the latest Rajars, the network rose from 1.5 million listeners a week and 11.3 million hours to 2.3 million listeners and 21.2 million hours.
