The former head of advertising at Metro, Gary Savage, has joined
Express Newspapers as the ad controller on the Sunday Express. This move
comes as part of a management reshuffle that will see the Express
titles' ad controller, Mark Hopkins, leave the company. Hopkins is not
believed to have a job to go to.
The appointment comes as Express Newspapers' managing director, Stan
Myerson, moves to rebuild the ad sales department after a spate of
departures earlier this year.
Michael Guest, the News International veteran, was appointed group
client controller two weeks ago. Myerson has also brought in Fleur
Edwards from the Financial Times to take the position of head of
classified, working across all Express group titles. 'The drive and
energy of our three new appointments will make our titles even more
competitive,' Myerson said.
Meanwhile, Jeremy Slattery has been given the role of ad controller for
the Daily Express after nine years with the company. Chris Marston
remains in his position as the ad controller at the Daily Star.
Savage's appointment follows his sudden departure from Metro in
February.
He had taken on the Metro role in September following his resignation
from his position as the deputy ad director for Times Newspapers during
the summer. However, Savage left the Associated Newspapers-owned title
without a job to go to after less than five months. Metro has not
appointed a replacement for Savage.
