My mentor is Laurence Owen, head of marketing at Totaljobs Group. I worked with him when I was at Totaljobs on the jobs boards RetailChoice.com and Caterer.com. From Laurence, I learned the importance of exploring fresh innovations in the market, the necessity of freedom to explore these innovations and the import­ance of sticking to your guns when things get rough.

With Laurence, I launched pod­casts and vodcasts before anyone else in the sector, challenged orthodox thinking within the com­pany and was given the freedom to be successful. Perhaps most signi­ficantly, he taught me the import­ance of sales professionals within a profitable company. I have used these skills in my current job and the launch of our video-subscription service, Club Player.
