Adams, 34, replaces Becky Smith, who left earlier this year. He will take on an expanded role and responsibility for Metro's strategic sales team and product development. Adams will work alongside Doug Read, Metro's director of research, and report to the commercial director, Justin Farnan.
A planner by background, Adams has worked at MEC for half his 15-year career. He joined the CIA board in 2001 and was made group account director -- effectively becoming number two in the agency's planning department -- at the beginning of last year.
Adams said: "Metro is a very successful brand and most people in the industry are consumers of it. I couldn't see another role in agencies and this provides me with a fresh challenge."
Adams joins Metro in July.
