Mediaedge:cia beat Carat, Initiative Media and incumbent Media Mix to win the work.
The win sees the WPP Group-owned agency handle all centralised media planning and buying as well as activity in individual markets, including the UK, outside of the domestic Swiss market.
The media account for the domestic Swiss market continues to be held by Mediaschneider.
Mediaedge:cia's first task will be the airline's corporate branding and promotion, which kicks off in April through creative agency Jung von Matt.
Markus Rege, vice-president of marketing and communications at Swiss International Air Lines, said: "Through this new partnership with Mediaedge:cia, we aim to reach our target audience in key locations worldwide even better than before. We want to make flying an experience of excellence and we have to communicate accordingly."
The account will be managed by Mediaedge:cia managing partner Blandine Pilot and her team out of the agency's international office in Paris.
Pilot said: "I am thrilled that Mediaedge:cia has been appointed to the account. We are looking forward to working with the carrier and helping build its new brand positioning and contributing to its future business growth."
Swiss International Air Lines was formed in March last year combining the services of bankrupt international carrier Swissair and regional airline Crossair.
